The Stellar Alignment Gift Set bundles Illimat Second Edition with a brass Syzygy Coin and a bonus luminary card. Here's what you get, who it suits, and how to gift it.
Quick answer
The Illimat Stellar Alignment Gift Set contains a copy of Illimat: Second Edition, one brass Syzygy Coin made by Shire Post Mint with Carson Ellis' moon and sun designs, and the Jeanne D'Arc bonus luminary card. Buy it when you want a ready-to-give game present with a collectible piece inside; skip it if the recipient already owns Illimat Second Edition and only wants the coin.
What exactly comes in the box?
Three items ship together: the Second Edition of Illimat, the Jeanne D'Arc bonus luminary card, and a single brass Syzygy Coin. The coin is struck by Shire Post Mint and carries Carson Ellis' moon illustration on one face and the sun on the other. The bonus card is a luminary, so it slots into play rather than sitting on a shelf.
Is the Syzygy Coin playable or just decorative?
The catalog describes the coin as a brass piece crafted by Shire Post Mint, not as a replacement for a game component. Treat it as a keepsake or table piece. If your group already uses a coin or token to mark turns, the weight and two-sided design make it a pleasant upgrade, but the set does not claim to change the rules.
Who is this gift set actually for?
It fits three buyers: someone introducing Illimat to a household, a player who admires Carson Ellis' art and wants a display piece, and a gift-giver who wants one box that covers game plus keepsake. It is a weaker fit for a completionist who already owns Second Edition and every luminary, because the overlap is most of the box.
How does it compare with the smaller Illimat art sets?
The Mysterious Missives Art Set and the Frameable Luminary Art Card Set are art-first purchases: framable 5x7 cards of the eight base-game luminaries, with Mysterious Missives adding a pin choice. The Stellar Alignment set is game-first. If the person on your list does not own Illimat yet, the gift set does more work; if they already play and want wall art, one of the card sets is the better match.
How should I present it as a holiday gift?
Open the box before wrapping and check that the coin and bonus card are present, then repack with the coin on top so it reads as a gift rather than a loose component. If you are shipping it, slide the coin into a small bag or envelope so it does not rattle against the game box in transit.
Illimat gift set questions, answered
- Do I need the base game to use the bonus card?
- Yes. The Jeanne D'Arc card is a luminary for Illimat, so it needs the game to be played. The set includes Second Edition, so a first-time recipient is covered. Buy the set for someone without the game; buy the card sets for someone who already plays.
- Is the coin a limited collectible?
- The catalog lists one brass Syzygy Coin from Shire Post Mint but does not state a mintage or limited-run status. Do not assume scarcity when deciding. Value the coin as a nice extra, not an investment.
- Can I split the set into separate gifts?
- You can, but the coin and bonus card are the set's distinguishing pieces. Splitting them leaves the game box as a plain Second Edition copy. Keep the three items together for the strongest gift.

Choose this instead when the recipient already owns the game and wants display art or a pin.
- Illimat: Frameable Luminary Art Card Set: The Frameable Luminary Art Card Set contains all eight base-game luminary illustrations by Carson Ellis as blank-inside cards suitable for framing or writing. It is the lowest-overlap add-on for an existing Illimat player who wants art only.
