Unbox the Banjo King Deluxe Edition and learn the two games inside: Moonshine! and Blessed. This guide covers what you get and how to start playing.
Quick answer
The Banjo King Deluxe Edition includes the card game plus a cotton bandana/player-board and two engraved wood scrip tokens, offering two easy-to-learn games: Moonshine! (card collecting) and Blessed (trick taking).
What's in the box
The Deluxe Edition comes with one copy of The Banjo King game, one cotton 22x22 bandana that doubles as a player board, and two engraved wood scrip tokens. The bandana adds a tactile, thematic element to gameplay, while the tokens serve as scoring markers or currency depending on the game variant you choose.
Two games in one box
Moonshine! is a card-collecting game inspired by the classic Scopa. Players aim to collect sets of cards to earn points. Blessed is a trick-taking game based on Briscola, where the goal is to win tricks by playing higher-value cards. Both games are designed for two or four players and are quick to learn, making them ideal for casual game nights.
Trade-offs to consider
While the Deluxe Edition adds nice extras, the base game is also available separately if you don't need the bandana or tokens. The rules are simple but may feel too light for experienced gamers seeking deep strategy. The small box size makes it portable but means cards are standard size, not oversized.
How to decide if this is for you
- Choose the Deluxe Edition if: You want the bandana player-board and wood tokens for a more immersive experience, or you plan to gift the game and prefer a premium presentation.
- Stick with the base game if: You only need the cards and don't mind using a table or cloth as a playing surface, or you're on a tighter budget.
- Play Moonshine! when: Your group enjoys set-collection games like Rummy or Scopa. It works best with 2–4 players and takes about 20 minutes per round.
- Play Blessed when: Your group prefers trick-taking games like Hearts or Briscola. It's faster than Moonshine! and suits 2–4 players equally well.
- Not sure which game to try first?: Start with Moonshine! if you like collecting sets; start with Blessed if you prefer head-to-head trick battles. Both are included, so you can switch anytime.
